Why sleep matters

If nights feel unsafe, talk to a clinician.

Why it matters

How much and how regularly you sleep shows up in how long you live. Across 16 prospective cohorts, people who habitually slept too little had about 12% higher mortality [1]. In UK Biobank, a regular sleep schedule predicted mortality even better than hours slept [2], and untreated severe sleep apnea carried about three times the death rate over 18 years [3].
